Geeky Confessions

Back in September, Mariko of the Gamerwife blog started a link-up getting us bloggers to admit our geekiest confessions. I started writing the post at the time, but then I had other big blog post ideas I wanted to get written out and then life got in the way, so this post got EXTREMELY neglected. Anyways, better late than never, I wanted to finally reveal my confessions for which I realize I have quite a few of.

StarWars

As someone who claims to be a film nerd, even I find it a little blasphemous to admit that I’ve never seen the original trilogy. I don’t know why, but I just never watched it. And I feel like I’ve heard/read so much about it, that I don’t even need to see it. Except I’m fairly certain I still do need to watch it. Somehow I got convinced by my brother-in-law and sister to actually watch Episode 1, and of course that turned me off (Jar Jar Binks, anyone?) so I didn’t even watch the other two in the prequel trilogy. Now with Episode 7 coming from J.J. Abrams this year, I REALLY should get a jump on working on the original trilogy.

BTTF

In relation to the first confession, I’ll admit I know a lot about movies…even the ones I haven’t actually seen. Back to the Future? Seen bits and pieces when it’s been on TV, haven’t had time to fully commit and watch the full trilogy. Classic 80s movies – Say Anything, Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller? Nope. Blade Runner? Nope. Fight Club, Seven, The Usual Suspects? Nope, on all counts. Basically, I’ve done a really good job at pretending I’ve seen a lot more movies than I have.

gamer

This is the extent of gaming throughout my life: Tetris on the old school Gameboy; King Kong and Duck Hunt on the original Nintendo; Crash Bandicoot and a couple other games on the original Playstation; Diner Dash, Candy Crush, Angry Birds, and those games on the iPhone/iPad. That’s it. You ask me about Halo or whatever the big video games are, and I will only have a vague idea of what you’re talking about because my brother-in-law is a gamer. And tabletop games? I had no idea what they were exactly until I went to SDCC.

lovehateTV

I can never fully explain why I like some of the shows I like, other than the fact that I enjoy watching them. Shows like Hart of Dixie and The Big Bang Theory are fun to watch and they make me happy. Because heaven forbid we need another cop procedural show right? I love being different and liking all the shows that I do. But having such varied tastes means that, with a few exceptions, I end up liking/loving underrated shows that end up getting cancelled way before they should. It frustrated me (and still does) that not enough people watched Nikita. Sure, we got 3.25 seasons (the fourth season was only 6 episodes, which was SO not enough to wrap things up, even though they did it admirably considering) but I wanted more!

sorry

There are just some shows I don’t get or I’m just not into, despite them being these popular shows. Game of Thrones? I watched the first three seasons and a bit of the fourth, then realized I didn’t really have much interest in it. I wanted to be in the know, so I watched it, but I was not able to recall half the things that happened. The Walking Dead? Couldn’t get past the first episode. [Funny side story: I volunteered at Fan Expo last year and got assigned to handle the Norman Reedus autograph line for a few hours. When asked by my supervisor if I was cool with it (like was I going to fangirl?), I was all like “Yeah, whatever. I know who he is. I don’t watch the show but know who he is.”] Doctor Who? I honestly didn’t know it was a big thing until like three years ago, again when I went to SDCC.

I could probably confess on some other things but I’m just gonna leave it at that.
